Web Comics

I have always hound a lot of delight in web comics, I love how much variety is out there. Each has their own feel and area that they typically weigh in on. Looking at the link to flash comic on the webpage, I really enjoyed the discussion about messing with time in the medium. The manipulation of speed with panel placement and even how fast the reader chooses to click. I also really enjoyed the concept of layering panels one on top of each other, this is something I had not considered previously. Simon Hanselmann’s strip was interesting. The content wasn’t really something I was drawn to, but I did find sympathy in the owl character. I felt bad for him, and in someways a bit of connection with how he would try to better his friends or expand their minds and just be shut down for his troubles. The one I enjoyed the most was The Perry Bible Fellowship . I always see a lot of his strips around different website but I forget some of the times that they are the same strip because of how mu

Women comics/ Pretty Deadly, Diary of a Dominatrix

I really enjoyed reading Pretty Deadly in class. The color pallet was mesmerizing, the line work had a real gritty feel the played well with the western tone. I found it interesting that I wouldn’t have necessarily pegged this author as female. It really did a good job of conveying the flavor of a western, and the pacing fit very good with this. I found myself very surprised by Diary of a Dominatrix . I did not think that I would have liked it as nearly as much as I did. I really liked the art style, especially how the eyes and hair were drawn. The format its self that was built to resemble an instructional book felt very fresh to me. I liked how on some pages the objects would be scattered around, it felt very free and organic. I thought that the techniques for shading were also very cool, not a lot of the comics through this course seemed to employ cross hatching variations. The piece as a whole felt very playful, using paper doll pages and step by step tutorial

Asterios Polyp

Think this was may favorite week of the semester. I absolutely loved Asterios Polyp , so much that I plan on getting my own copy. It was like noting I had ever seen before, it felt so fresh and new! The color scheme was genius and the choice of purple instead of black lines was a genius move in my opinion. It was such a small change that made an amazing difference in the tone of the story. The colors he used seemed to have a calming effect on me while I read that I really enjoyed. I also really appreciated how that artistic style would change depending on which character it was, and how they would merge and separate in correlation to what was happening in the story. This was extremely effective in visually describing the relationship. I love the content of the story and how much it made me think while reading it. There were so many phrases that felt like leaping off points for deeper though, I found myself pausing a lot to ponder them. I felt a lot of connection to
